Improved resilience measure for component recovery priority in power grids

摘要: Given the complexity of power grids, the failure of any component may cause large-scale economic losses. Consequently, the quick recovery of power grids after disasters has become a new research direction. Considering the severity of power grid disasters, an improved power grid resilience measure and its corresponding importance measures are proposed. The recovery priority of failed components after a disaster is determined according to the influence of the failed components on the power grid resilience. Finally, based on the data from the 2019 Power Yearbook of each city in Shandong Province, China, the power grid resilience after a disaster is analyzed for two situations, namely, partial components failure and failure of all components. Result shows that the recovery priorities of components with different importance measures vary. The resilience evaluations under different repair conditions prove the feasibility of the proposed method.

Recent advances in system reliability optimization driven by importance measures

摘要: System reliability optimization problems have been widely discussed to maximize system reliability with resource constraints. Birnbaum importance is a well-known method for evaluating the effect of component reliability on system reliability. Many importance measures (IMs) are extended for binary, multistate, and continuous systems from different aspects based on the Birnbaum importance. Recently, these IMs have been applied in allocating limited resources to the component to maximize system performance. Therefore, the significance of Birnbaum importance is illustrated from the perspective of probability principle and gradient geometrical sense. Furthermore, the equations of various extended IMs are provided subsequently. The rules for simple optimization problems are summarized to enhance system reliability by using ranking or heuristic methods based on IMs. The importance-based optimization algorithms for complex or large-scale systems are generalized to obtain remarkable solutions by using IM-based local search or simplification methods. Furthermore, a general framework driven by IM is developed to solve optimization problems. Finally, some challenges in system reliability optimization that need to be solved in the future are presented.

A neural network-based production process modeling and variable importance analysis approach in corn

摘要: Corn to sugar process has long faced the risks of high energy consumption and thin profits. However, it’s hard to upgrade or optimize the process based on mechanism unit operation models due to the high complexity of the related processes. Big data technology provides a promising solution as its ability to turn huge amounts of data into insights for operational decisions. In this paper, a neural network-based production process modeling and variable importance analysis approach is proposed for corn to sugar processes, which contains data preprocessing, dimensionality reduction, multilayer perceptron/convolutional neural network/recurrent neural network based modeling and extended weights connection method. In the established model, dextrose equivalent value is selected as the output, and 654 sites from the DCS system are selected as the inputs. LASSO analysis is first applied to reduce the data dimension to 155, then the inputs are dimensionalized to 50 by means of genetic algorithm optimization. Ultimately, variable importance analysis is carried out by the extended weight connection method, and 20 of the most important sites are selected for each neural network. The results indicate that the multilayer perceptron and recurrent neural network models have a relative error of less than 0.1%, which have a better prediction result than other models, and the 20 most important sites selected have better explicable performance. The major contributions derived from this work are of significant aid in process simulation model with high accuracy and process optimization based on the selected most important sites to maintain high quality and stable production for corn to sugar processes.

The critical importance of epigenetics in autoimmune-related skin diseases

摘要: Autoimmune-related skin diseases are a group of disorders with diverse etiology and pathophysiology involved in autoimmunity. Genetics and environmental factors may contribute to the development of these autoimmune disorders. Although the etiology and pathogenesis of these disorders are poorly understood, environmental variables that induce aberrant epigenetic regulations may provide some insights. Epigenetics is the study of heritable mechanisms that regulate gene expression without changing DNA sequences. The most important epigenetic mechanisms are DNA methylation, histone modification, and noncoding RNAs. In this review, we discuss the most recent findings regarding the function of epigenetic mechanisms in autoimmune-related skin disorders, including systemic lupus erythematosus, bullous skin diseases, psoriasis, and systemic sclerosis. These findings will expand our understanding and highlight the possible clinical applications of precision epigenetics approaches.

Robust ensemble of metamodels based on the hybrid error measure

摘要: Metamodels have been widely used as an alternative for expensive physical experiments or complex, time-consuming computational simulations to provide a fast but accurate analysis. However, challenge remains in the prior determination of the most suitable metamodel for a particular case because of the lack of information about the actual behavior of a system. In addition, existing studies on metamodels have largely restricted on solving deterministic problems (e.g., data from finite element models), whereas some real-life engineering problems (e.g., data from physical experiment) are stochastic problems with noisy data. In this work, a robust ensemble of metamodels (EMs) is proposed by combining three regression stand-alone metamodels in a weighted sum form. The weight factor is adaptively determined according to the hybrid error metric, which combines global and local error measures to improve the accuracy of the EMs. Furthermore, three typical individual metamodels that can filter noise are selected to construct the EMs to extend their application in practical engineering problems. Three well-known benchmark problems with different levels of noise and three engineering problems are used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed EMs. Results show that the proposed EMs have higher accuracy and robustness than the individual metamodels and other typical EMs in major cases.

Search for a natural scientific measure of economy

摘要: Through human history, wealth has been measured in grain, gold, and, now, dollars. Though counterfeiting of coins and notes goes back a long way, it is only with electronic financial accounting in a global economy tainted by toxic loans and imaginary funds that there is an urgency to search for a realistic objective way to monitor and regulate what we are doing to our Earth and ourselves. Various schemes using analysis of utility functions, oil equivalents, entropy, energy, and other units have been tried and, while helping to understand some basic processes and flows, have always been swamped by the machinations of financiers and the attention big sums of money attract. Now, the concept of exergy, pioneered in Eastern Europe in the 1950s, is being researched, developed, and applied, especially in China, driven by the desperation to measure the reality beyond the twin specters of global financial and environmental crises. A rough inventory of the matter in the biosphere at the coordinate details of an angstrom and an appreciation of how humans harness and manipulate electromagnetic forces can be enlightening as to what is and is not sustainable. Without that understanding, any financial estimate and proposed stimulus packages or IMF reform will be wildly wrong and may even be headed in the wrong direction.

balloon-only strategy for percutaneous coronary intervention of left main coronary artery disease: the importance

摘要: This retrospective single-center registry study included all consecutive patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for a de novo left main coronary artery lesion using drug coated-balloon (DCB)-only strategy between August 2011 and December 2018. To best of our knowledge, no previous studies of DCB-only strategy of treating de novo left main coronary artery disease, exist. The primary endpoint was major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) including cardiac death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, and target lesion revascularization (TLR). The cohort was divided into two groups depending on weather the lesion preparation was done according to the international consensus group guidelines. Sixty-six patients (mean age 75±8.6, 72% male), 52% of whom had acute coronary syndrome, underwent left main PCI with the DCB-only strategy. No procedural mortality and no acute closures of the treated left main occurred. At 12 months, MACE and TLR occurred in 24% and 6% of the whole cohort, respectively. If the lesion preparation was done according to the guidelines, the MACE and TLR rates were 21.2% and 1.9%. Left main PCI with the DCB only-strategy is safe leading to acceptable MACE and low TLR rates at one year, if the lesion preparation is done according to the guidelines.

摘要: Similarity measure has long played a critical role and attracted great interest in various areas such as and machine perception. Nevertheless, there remains the issue of developing an efficient two-dimensional (2D) robust similarity measure method for images. Inspired by the properties of subspace, we develop an effective 2D technique, named transformation similarity measure (TSM), for robust . Specifically, the TSM method robustly determines the similarity between two well-aligned frontal facial images while weakening interference in the by linear transformation and singular value decomposition. We present the mathematical features and some odds to reveal the feasible and robust measure mechanism of TSM. The performance of the TSM method, combined with the nearest neighbor rule, is evaluated in under different challenges. Experimental results clearly show the advantages of the TSM method in terms of accuracy and robustness.

基于网络传输特性的链路重要性评价方法

提出了一种基于网络传输特性的链路重要性评价方法, 根据链路在网络所有节点相互通信的最短路径中的使用频度来评价链路重要性,最重要链路的使用频度最高。该方法不需要像目前的链路重要性评价方法那样进行链路收缩和删除,直接反映了链路对整个网络通信的贡献大小,可以判断通信网中任意两条链路的相对重要性。算法分析和实验仿真表明,文章算法克服了目前的评价方法存在的问题,给出了更直观合理的通信网链路重要性评价准则。

Time-series prediction based on global fuzzy measure in social networks

摘要: Social network analysis (SNA) is among the hottest topics of current research. Most measurements of SNA methods are certainty oriented, while in reality, the uncertainties in relationships are widely spread to be overridden. In this paper, fuzzy concept is introduced to model the uncertainty, and a similarity metric is used to build a fuzzy relation model among individuals in the social network. The traditional social network is transformed into a fuzzy network by replacing the traditional relations with fuzzy relation and calculating the global fuzzy measure such as network density and centralization. Finally, the trend of fuzzy network evolution is analyzed and predicted with a fuzzy Markov chain. Experimental results demonstrate that the fuzzy network has more superiority than the traditional network in describing the network evolution process.

Emergy evaluation of polygeneration systems

摘要: To expand the application range of the emergy evaluation method, an emergy evaluation index, which can reflect the particular feature of polygeneration systems, has been elaborated on the basis of energy and emergy conservation, guided by the fundamental principle of emergy analysis. With this index, the cost structure, emission effect and energy saved were all considered on the same level of importance. To exemplify, some power polygeneration systems (methanol-power generation, hydrogen-power generation) are considered using coal as the basic fuel. The results showed that emergy evaluation indices are practical for comprehensively evaluating polygeneration systems and their sustainability, which is influenced by such factors as the joining mode of polygeneration and the technologies used. The sustainability of polygeneration systems, which work on an appropriate ratio of fuel-to-electric power basis, is higher than that of singular production systems.

Overlap maximum matching ratio (OMMR): a new measure to evaluate overlaps of essential modules

摘要: Protein complexes are the basic units of macro-molecular organizations and help us to understand the cell’s mechanism. The development of the yeast two-hybrid, tandem affinity purification, and mass spectrometry high-throughput proteomic techniques supplies a large amount of protein-protein interaction data, which make it possible to predict overlapping complexes through computational methods. Research shows that overlapping complexes can contribute to identifying essential proteins, which are necessary for the organism to survive and reproduce, and for life’s activities. Scholars pay more attention to the evaluation of protein complexes. However, few of them focus on predicted overlaps. In this paper, an evaluation criterion called overlap maximum matching ratio (OMMR) is proposed to analyze the similarity between the identified overlaps and the benchmark overlap modules. Comparison of essential proteins and gene ontology (GO) analysis are also used to assess the quality of overlaps. We perform a comprehensive comparison of serveral overlapping complexes prediction approaches, using three yeast protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks. We focus on the analysis of overlaps identified by these algorithms. Experimental results indicate the important of overlaps and reveal the relationship between overlaps and identification of essential proteins.

基于重要性采样的TOA与FOA无源定位算法 Article

摘要: 最大似然类的无源定位方法可以达到较高的定位精度,但其计算量非常大。由于时频参数联合定位模型本身的非线性和非凸性非常大,繁重的计算量在TOA与FOA联合定位系统中表现尤为明显。本文针对这一问题,通过Pincus全局最优理论和蒙特卡洛重要性采样技术降低了最大似然类定位算法的计算复杂度,并且保证算法可以收敛到全局最优解。本文主要的贡献是构建了一个高斯分布的概率密度函数来近似原始的代价函数方便后续的采样,我们称之为重要性函数。该方法所带来性能上的提升是因为选择了最优的重要性函数并且Pincus保证算法收敛到全局最小值。这一处理大大降低了计算量,由于算法进行了泰勒级数展开,需要初始估计值。通过采样处理并且对样本进行加权,本文算法对初始估计值具有良好的鲁棒性。最后,实验证明本文所提算法可以达到克拉美罗限,且性能要优于现有算法。
